Salvage Hip Procedures in the Aged

THIS paper describes the use of the prosthetic head in the treatment of recent fractures of the neck of the femur, in patients in whom Smith Peterson pins had failed, and degenerative hip disease in the aged. It is of interest that the first metal prosthetic head used in Britain was designied and inserted bv Mr. N. S. Martin at Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast, in 1948. Hey Groves, oni one occasion in 1922, used anl ivory prosthesis.
